...Morning Area Forecast Discussion...

.KEY MESSAGES...
Updated at 134 AM EST Mon Feb 2 2026

- Areas with remnant snowfall refroze overnight, leading to the
potential for patchy black ice in those areas this morning.

- Cold weather lingers this morning with low temps in the low 20s
and wind chills in the teens.

- Much warmer on Tuesday ahead of a front that will bring
widespread light rain to the area late Tuesday into Wednesday.

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Tuesday)
Issued at 134 AM EST Mon Feb 2 2026

A chilly morning to start the work week, though it will
definitely feel nicer than yesterday! Low temps this morning will
be in the 20s for most areas, with 4-7 mph winds bringing `feels-
like` temps down into the teens. Areas that were hit hardest with
snow on Saturday will likely have patchy black ice this morning as
everything that was melting refroze overnight. Thankfully, this
will be the coldest morning of the week, as the arctic airmass
from over the weekend gets kicked out by high pressure over the
Gulf. By this afternoon, everyone can shed their winter jacket,
as temperatures climb into the mid to upper 40s in north GA, and
low 50s in central GA. Tonight into Tuesday morning, mostly clear
skies and light winds will allow temps to drop back into the upper
20s to low 30s across the area.

During the day on Tuesday, a mid-level shortwave will be dropping
across the Midwest into the Tennessee Valley, initiating strong
warm air advection over Georgia within deep southwest flow. By
early afternoon, temperatures will soar into the mid to upper 50s
in north GA, and low to mid 60s in central GA. Cloud cover will
gradually increase throughout the day as the shortwave approaches,
with areas of rain starting to move into far NW GA by late
afternoon to early evening. The widespread area of rain will continue
to spread from northwest to southeast across the rest of north GA
during Tuesday evening and overnight. With limited moisture and a
lack of instability, this will primarily be a widespread
stratiform rain with no thunder chances.

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday night through Sunday)
Issued at 134 AM EST Mon Feb 2 2026

By the time the long term picks up, upper level flow has gone
mostly zonal and we start to see a weak impulse through the
westerly flow that translates to another shot of rain for the CWA
on Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to do a good bit of
rebounding before the rain arrives, even in the mountains where
lows early Wednesday morning fall into the upper 30s. As a result
we aren`t expecting any additional freezing precipitation at this
time.

As the cold front moves the rain out late Wednesday afternoon and
into the evening, cold air is expected to filter in behind it.
Widespread temperatures below freezing are expected for Thursday
morning with windchill values in the teens.

Once that passes through, it`ll be quiet weather for a little
while. Temperatures will climb back into the 50s by the end of the
work week though overnight lows are expected to hover at or just
below freezing for the remainder of the forecast.
